Matt Buie

Writer's picture: Jackie and KateJackie and Kate

1983 - 2016

After a long battle with addiction, Matt has left this world to begin his road to recovery in the presence of his family members who have gone before and his loving Father in Heaven.

Matt was born on March 17, 1983, St. Patrick’s Day to Randal and Cindy Buie. He grew up in Cottonwood Heights and Sandy, Utah and Phoenix, Arizona. He graduated from Brighton High School and received an Associate’s degree from Salt Lake Community College.

Matt, affectionately known as “Buie”, was truly larger than life. He was always seeking an adventure and pushing the limits to experience the next big rush. Matt was a nature lover, he found great peace and comfort in the mountains. He spent many hours on the slopes, snowboarding, hiking, climbing, camping and enjoying the canyons of the Wasatch front. He enjoyed the water, from cliff jumping into a cold mountain lake, skiing or wake-boarding, to sailing and fishing. He loved to work outside, and was a skilled gardener and landscaper, helping to perfect many beautiful gardens. Matt loved to golf, his ultimate dream was to design and maintain world class golf courses. He was a talented artist and writer. He loved music and attending live concerts. There was nothing Matt could not do, he was good at anything he tried and had many talents. He wanted to experience all that this life had to offer.

Matt was loved and adored by many. His caring, loving, fun personality was contagious, especially to his nephew and nieces. It was always a good time when “Uncle Matt” was around. He was kind- hearted and appreciated all that was done for him by many counselors, friends and most importantly his family.

Matt is survived by his loving parents, Sister, Sara Cowley (Brian) nephew and nieces; Zackery, Addisyn, Katelyn and Lauren who all adored Uncle Matt; Brother, Steven (Stacey), Grandfather Robert Brewster (Donna, deceased), Grandmother Linda Rasmussen (Phil, deceased). Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A casual “Buie-style” gathering of family and friends to remember Matt will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 South) SLC Utah 84121

Per Matt’s request his ashes will be spread in some of his favorite places.

The family wishes to thank all those who have helped Matt throughout his life.

Peace N’ Luv, N.G.U.
